                        INTRODUCTION

The Goose Pond Area, or Greene - Sullivan County Complex,
is located in the two northern most counties of Southwest
Indiana. This mega conglomerate of birding sites is on or
near the Greene -Sullivan County line. These seven sites
combine for an astounding 34,634+ acres of wildlife habitat.
The massive size of this area, combined with a wide variety
of habitat, creates a phenomenal synergistic effect in
attracting migrating birds. The Goose Pond Area is a major
stop over for migratory birds.
The big break through came in 2005 when the Department
of Natural Resources signed a letter of intent to purchase
the 8000 acres known as Goose Pond and Beehunter
Marsh. The restoration by the Natural Resources
Conservation Service is ongoing and will be completed by
2010. At least 5000 acres will consist of wetland habitat.
The webmaster's opinion: This is the best place to go birding
away from the Lakefront (Indiana shoreline of Lake Michigan).

DIRECTIONS TO THE GOOSE POND AREA

From the intersection of I-465 and I-70 in Indianapolis,
drive west on I-70 for roughly 52 miles. Veer right onto
Exit # 23/S.R.59/Linton/Brazil. At the stop sign, turn left
(south) on S.R. 59. Drive south on S.R.59 for roughly 39
miles. While passing through the town of Linton, S.R. 59
will elbow right and then quickly elbow left (south). At
the second elbow, turn right (west) onto C.R. 200 S.
(road sign is hard to see-this is at the south end of town).
You are now at Goose Pond-Unit 16 (south side), and
Goose Pond-Unit 10 (north side).
